Known as Panchakarma, your personalised healing programme is designed by an Ayurvedic doctor to suit your constitution and current state of balance. Depending on your individual needs the programme may focus on a deep cleansing process followed by rejuvenation, or a more nourishing and rebuilding rejuvenation process. Whatever health or wellbeing issues you may be experiencing; anxiety, menopause, weight gain, skin issues, fertility, arthritis, etc, PK works on a cellular level to clear deeply embedded physical and emotional impressions known in yoga as Samskaras. This sanskrit word is the root of the english word scar. Detoxifying and rejuvenating on one level, life changing on another. Qu: What is Panchakarma? Ans: Ayurveda's crown jewel of healing and rejuvenation. The main objective of Ayurveda is to maintain positive health and to provide treatment when health is compromised. To this end, Panchakarma is a traditional purification therapy used to eradicate or remove the imbalances that cause disease. Pancha means five and karma means action, so the process involves 5 main actions or practices that are administered in 3-stages: Stage 1 prepares the body to release toxic build-up. Herbs, oils and heat based treatments are used to soften and mobilise toxins and open the channels of the body. Stage 2 releases the toxins from the body. Herbs and treatments are used to encourage the toxins to exit the body. Depending on the quality and location of the toxins this may be via bowel motions, enemas and vomiting. Stage 3 focuses on restoring digestive strength and rejuvenating the tissues. Additional treatments are used to help the body to rejuvenate, with the last few days dedicated to external oil treatments along with dinacharya (daily practices) instruction to be continued at home. The JourneyHaving visited Vaidyagrama, and experienced panchakarma several times, we both know that it is a significant investment of your time, energy, and money. It is also both challenging, and rewarding. Challenging because it strips away deeply held toxins and traumas that have been stored in the body. Rewarding because you come away renewed, no longer carrying what does not serve you.
Like Panchakarma itself, your healing journey has 3 stages: Stage 1 - Getting Ready (2 weeks) Panchakarma will be different to anything you have experienced…even if you have been to India before. From when you register, and until we depart for India, information will be available on how to organise your travel and apply for a visa, packing and travel tips and pre-treatment dietary suggestions. In the two weeks before we go there will be online group calls to talk about what to expect, set intentions for what you want to experience, answer questions, and discuss any concerns or reservations you may have. Stage 2 - India (4 weeks) Your personalised treatment programme is comprised of traditional treatments, herbal medicines, a cleansing diet, and monitored by daily visits with your doctor. The Vaidyagrama staff are very experienced and capable and you are in good hands. Although it is not our role to intercede between you and your doctor, we are available if needed to help you to understand why they are asking you to do certain things and help navigate any concerns or issues that may arise. The first 21-days of your programme focus mainly on Stage 1 & 2, and the last week on Stage 3. (refer to What is Panchakarma? above). The transition home actually begins during this final week when we will meet to discuss intentions, strategies, and concerns so that you land with a plan. Stage 3 - Returning Home (6 weeks) Coming home is a crucial stage of Panchakarma and the primary reason we are offering this extended experience. How this post-treatment period is approached will determin whether the benefits are short lived or long lasting. You will arrive home with a three-month supply of herbal medications, and a list of diet and lifestyle recommendations to continue your healing journey. For the first 6 weeks we will have a support programme in place that will help you land gently and stay on track. This will include regular group calls, access to sangha (community), Q&A sessions, resources and whatever else we come up with that will help you maximise the benefit of this once in a life time experience. Discover the story behind this unique facility. And this one as well...www.civilsocietyonline.com/cover-story/healing-at-vaidyagrama/ As a group we will be accommodated together in a separate Wing with our own a courtyard and treatment rooms. My heartfelt gratitude is not just for my own personal experience – which has been profound – but for all that Vaidyagrama’s many hands are doing to maintain the integrity of Ayurveda. It is a a growing light that reflects all that Ayurveda is and meant to be. For this I am incredibly grateful. Thank you to Dr Ram Kumar whose satsang I attended on my 3rd day when he spoke about going into the ‘womb’ during treatment. I took him at his word and thereafter only left my room once a day for treatments and didn’t even go out on my balcony. The experience was profound and I am ever grateful for the healing it enabled on all levels of my being – physically, emotionally, mentally and spiritually. Dr Ram Das you remind me of a big, shiny teddy bear and you have a beautiful heart – I was never afraid to cry in front of you. The best part about leaving is knowing I will be back.
