Nurture & Nourish Workshop: 22-24 August 2023

As women our health and well-being starts and finishes with our hormonal balance. The key to our hormonal balance rests in our diet and lifestyle, how we nurture and nourish ourselves.

That may sound a bit pie in the sky when we are used to tending the ‘to-do’ list and prioritising the needs of everyone else seems to work, because hey, things get done and we feel good about ourselves.

What we don’t realise though, is what we are setting ourselves up for down the track. The expectations we are trying to live up to, both our own and those of others, are simply not sustainable.

When rushing and being busy becomes a way of life we start to feel energetically depleted, out of sync and betrayed by our body. We are caught up in a lifestyle that we know isn't good for us. Making poor food and lifestyle choices because we are too tired to do anything else.

We start to notice little things, like feeling tired all the time, not sleeping as well, needing that coffee or wine to ‘feel better’ …to get through the morning…the day… the evening. We notice these things but do what we need to do to ‘soldier on’, because that’s what we feel we HAVE to do, and we don’t know how to NOT do that.

There is no time or energy to look after ourselves or make better choices because, let’s face it, life feels all consuming. We’re barely coping as it is so, adding anything else to the mix will be the straw that breaks the camel’s back.

As this continues, and takes its toll, cracks in our health and well-being begin to show up.
  • It’s harder to go to or stay asleep,
  • We’re on the lounge at the end of the day exhausted with takeaway and a wine, or two
  • Food sensitivities creep in, feeling bloated and heavy after eating, and the bowels not working as well as they used to
  • Our skin feels and looks dull
  • Feeling anxious about things that never used to matter
  • No energy, no vitality

You are not alone, in fact you are probably more alone if you don’t feel like this. A recent study showed that 1 in 3 women experience anxiety to an extent that it affects their health and well-being. That’s much higher than men and comes down to the proven effect of ‘distress’ on our hormonal balance.

There is something very very wrong with this statistic and the wrongness lies in how and who women feel they need to be to feel OK about themselves in today’s world.

It takes a conscious step to break this cycle, step off the hamster wheel and reconnect with our inner wisdom and this retreat is designed to do just that.  As women our health and well-being starts and finishes with our hormones. The key to our hormonal balance rests in our diet and lifestyle, how we nurture and nourish ourselves.

This weekend is all about stepping out of the busyness, creating some space, going a bit slower, perhaps even stopping.
Our Venue:
Stroud Monastery is a charming mud-brick complex built in the early 1980’s by volunteers and members of the Franciscan community. It is located on the edge of the historic village of Stroud in the Hunter Valley about 90 minutes north-west of Newcastle (not far from the village of Dungog) and is situated in a tranquil bush setting providing the perfect space to pause, reflect and reconnect.

The Franciscan values of simplicity, peace, hope and healing are ever-present in this beautiful place. In keeping with this the accommodation is simple and rustic.  Most rooms are single occupancy and shared bathroom facilities.

Some of the features of the complex include a purpose-built (yoga) practice space, a beautiful mud-brick chapel, an amazing kitchen and lots of places to sit and contemplate. The cozy community lounge area has a combustion fire-place which is perfect for those cooler evenings.
